ETHICAL GOVERNANCE & LEADERSHIP STANDARDS

The Arizona Border Alliance is committed to integrity, accountability, and strong nonprofit governance. Our leadership practices are designed to uphold the highest ethical standards while ensuring transparency, fairness, and responsible stewardship of public and philanthropic resources. ABA complies with all applicable state and federal nonprofit governance requirements.

To support these principles, ABA maintains a strict nepotism policy. Family members are not permitted to serve together on the Board of Directors, nor may they hold staff or contract roles within the organization. This policy ensures impartial decision making, promotes merit based leadership, and minimizes the potential for conflicts of interest or favoritism. By maintaining clear professional boundaries, ABA reinforces trust among partners, funders, and the communities it serves.

All Arizona Border Alliance Board Members serve with defined term limits and do so in a volunteer capacity without financial compensation. Term limits promote accountability, encourage fresh perspectives, and support healthy board dynamics by regularly welcoming new leadership. This practice strengthens succession planning, prevents the consolidation of power, and helps ensure that governance remains representative, engaged, and responsive to evolving community needs.

Through these governance standards, ABA remains committed to ethical leadership and responsible oversight, ensuring that all decisions reflect the best interests of the organization and the communities it exists to serve.
